Hawes and Southworth studio is established.
1844
[1843] Operated by Josia Hawes and Albert Southworth, it is located in Pemberton Square near today’s 2 Center Plaza. The photography studio specializes in portraits until Southworth joins the California gold rush in 1849 and Hawes switches to photographing urban scenes. The studio closes in 1861.
